Chad King calls Christina Applegate a 'guiding light' amid MS battle
The actress and singer continue to support each other while navigating chronic illness
Chad King has credited Christina Applegate with being a steady source of strength as both continue to navigate life with multiple sclerosis (MS), calling the actress a “guiding light” in his ongoing health journey.
The 40-year-old A Great Big World singer, who was diagnosed with MS in 2007, spoke about their shared experience in an interview with People, reflecting on how Applegate’s openness has helped him feel less alone while managing a condition that affects the brain and spinal cord.
“Christina Applegate has been a guiding light for me in this whole process, which has been amazing,” King said.
“Every person with MS has different symptoms. It varies completely. Christina has different symptoms than me, and it’s like we’re going through our own struggles, but we can come together. She lifts me up.”
He added that their connection has helped him focus on perspective during difficult moments.
“She’s just reminding me that there’s so much good in your life. As dark and heavy as this moment is, there’s so much light,” he said.
Applegate, 54, was diagnosed with MS in 2021 and has since been open about the challenges of living with the condition.
Earlier this week, she addressed recent concerns about her health following reports she had been hospitalized in Los Angeles in late March.
In a statement shared on Instagram, the Married… With Children star reassured fans she was recovering.
“Thank you for the outpouring of love and well wishes,” she wrote. “Health issues are a constant for me, but I’m a strong chick and I’m getting stronger and better every day. I’m taking a moment to focus on my health, but I’ll be back with more to say soon enough.”
Her representative declined to confirm details of the reported hospitalization but acknowledged Applegate’s long-standing medical struggles, noting she has been open about her condition through both her memoir and podcast.
Applegate co-hosts the podcast MesSy with actress Jamie-Lynn Sigler, who was diagnosed with MS in 2002.
On the show, she has previously described the physical toll of the disease, including severe pain, hospital visits, and complications affecting her digestive system.
She has also used the platform to encourage others experiencing similar symptoms to seek medical advice, stressing the unpredictable nature of MS and its impact on daily life.
Despite ongoing health challenges, both Applegate and King continue to speak publicly about their experiences, highlighting the importance of community and shared understanding in living with chronic illness.
