Niall Horan has shared a poignant account of the moment he learned of the death of his former One Direction bandmate, Liam Payne.
Appearing on The Tommy Tiernan Show on RTÉ One, the Irish singer-songwriter took a "trip down memory lane," recalling the exact date and time he received the devastating news.
Horan admitted that his immediate thoughts turned to Payne’s young family, stating, "I just kept thinking about his little son and things like that."
Liam Payne passed away following a fall from a hotel balcony in Buenos Aires, Argentina. According to official reports, the cause of death was attributed to internal and external bleeding resulting from the fall.
Investigations revealed that while Payne had various substances in his system at the time, the physical injuries were the primary cause of his passing.
Emergency calls from the hotel at the time described a guest who was "intoxicated by drugs and alcohol" and damaging his room before the incident.
The singer is survived by his eight-year-old son, Bear, born in 2017, whom he shared with singer Cheryl Tweedy.
As Payne died without a will, his entire estate—valued at approximately $32.2 million (£25.7 million)—is set to be inherited by Bear.
Court documents obtained by People confirm that Cheryl Tweedy and attorney Richard Mark Bray have been named as administrators of the estate.
While they will manage the funds, they currently have limited authority and cannot yet distribute the assets.
Horan’s emotional interview highlights the enduring bond between the former bandmates and the profound impact of the tragedy on the music world.
