Texas substitute teacher arrested following alleged improper relationship with student
Angela Palmares is currently being held on a significant 150,000 dollar bond
A former substitute teacher in Texas has been arrested after authorities alleged she engaged in an improper relationship with a student at Llano High School.
Angela Louise Palmares, 27, was taken into custody on Wednesday in Bell County following an intensive investigation by the Llano County Sheriff's Office.
The inquiry began on Tuesday, when the Llano Independent School District notified law enforcement of "inappropriate communication" between the educator and a student, specifically involving a social media platform outside of school hours.
Upon receiving the report, Llano ISD immediately removed Palmares from its list of available substitutes and alerted the parents of the students directly impacted by the situation.
Records indicate that Palmares, a 2017 graduate of Llano High School, had not worked within the district since early April.
Following interviews and the collection of digital evidence, investigators obtained an arrest warrant, leading to her apprehension in Temple.
Palmares has been charged with an "improper relationship between an educator and a student," which is classified as a second-degree felony under the Texas Penal Code.
The 27-year-old is currently being held at the Bell County Jail on a $150,000 bond. Superintendent Mac Edwards emphasised that the district "takes all allegations of this nature extremely seriously" and is fully cooperating with the Texas Education Agency.
The investigation remains ongoing as officials seek to determine if there are any additional victims. Under state law, a conviction for this offence carries a potential prison sentence of between two and twenty years.
