Woman injured after accidental gun discharge on metro bus in Houston
Surveillance footage shows the gun going off while being handled
A woman was injured after being accidentally shot on a public bus in Houston, Texas, when her boyfriend’s firearm discharged during a ride, authorities said.
The incident occurred on April 29 aboard a METRO bus operating on Route 29, according to local reports.
Investigators initially believed the case could involve a domestic dispute but later revised their assessment after reviewing surveillance footage.
According to Houston METRO Police, CCTV video from the bus showed the man handling and apparently fumbling with a firearm before it discharged, striking the woman in the leg.
Officials said the footage suggested the shooting was accidental, though the investigation remains ongoing.
The woman has been identified as the man’s girlfriend, and the two were reportedly known to each other, according to local media reports.
Authorities also noted that the suspect left the scene following the incident.
Investigators later said the man was identified after he sought medical treatment for an unrelated reason, helping police confirm his involvement in the case.
The victim’s injuries are reported to be non-life-threatening, and she was treated following the shooting. Her identity has not been released.
Law enforcement officials continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident, including how the firearm was brought onto the bus and whether any charges will be filed.
METRO Houston and the Houston Police Department have not yet issued further public statements as the case remains active.
