Leslie Fremar, a prominent Hollywood stylist and former Vogue assistant, has come forward to claim she is the real-life inspiration behind the character of Emily Charlton in The Devil Wears Prada.

Speaking on Vogue’s The Run-Through podcast, Fremar addressed the long-standing speculation surrounding Emily Blunt’s iconic role.

“I know I am. Yes. Correct,” she stated, confirming that the character's demanding yet fashionable persona was modelled after her tenure at the magazine under the leadership of Anna Wintour.

Fremar provided historical context for her claim, noting that while working at Vogue, she personally hired author Lauren Weisberger to serve as a junior assistant.

The pair worked together for eight months, a period that provided Weisberger with the material for her 2003 bestselling novel.

Fremar also recalled a candid, if underwhelming, encounter with Blunt at a mutual friend’s house. Upon introducing herself as the "original Emily," Fremar noted that the actress did not offer the massive reaction she expected. “She was not that interested, to be honest,” Fremar remarked.

The revelation arrives as the franchise enjoys a major resurgence with the theatrical premiere of The Devil Wears Prada 2 today, Friday.

The sequel features the return of the original powerhouse cast, including Meryl Streep, Anne Hathaway, Stanley Tucci, and Blunt herself.

The production also boasts an expansive new ensemble, including Lady Gaga and Kenneth Branagh. As the sequel examines the modern landscape of fashion journalism, Fremar’s admission offers a nostalgic bridge between the original 2006 film and the current evolution of these beloved characters.
