Meghan Markle's father seeks recovery in US after finding love in Philippines
Thomas Markle had his leg amputated below the knee in December due to urgent medical situation
There are reports that Meghan Markle's father has made his way back to the US with hopes of regaining the ability to walk after finding romance in the Philippines.
At 81, Thomas Markle had his leg amputated below the knee in December due to an urgent medical situation when a blood clot impeded blood flow, causing his foot to turn black.
This crucial surgery came not long after he relocated to the Philippines to escape constant reminders of his daughter and seek a more peaceful existence.
He has had no contact with Meghan since just before her 2018 wedding to Prince Harry.
He has insisted that two heart attacks just before the royal wedding prevented his presence at the ceremony and the opportunity to escort Meghan down the aisle, although the Duchess reportedly hinted it was for media attention.
This fallout resulted in the 81-year-old having never met his son-in-law.
More significantly, he still hasn't met his grandkids, Archie, now six, or four-year-old Lilibet.
However, Mr. Markle is believed to have returned home with plans to receive a cutting-edge prosthetic leg, potentially allowing him to walk again and be nearer to his loved ones.
"The next step involves obtaining an electric wheelchair, followed by a prosthetic leg," he mentioned.
His oldest daughter, Samantha, shared last night: "Dad opted to return to the US to continue his medical treatment.
"He can access the finest prosthetics here and have friends and family around him for support.
"Even after experiencing such challenging times, this journey has provided dad with a positive spiritual enlightenment."
The former Hollywood lighting technician has spoken warmly about his time in Asia, where his life was saved with surgery to remove his leg from below the knee.
"I wouldn't be here today without the exceptional care from the amazing doctors and nurses in the Philippines," he expressed.
"They truly saved my life."
His appreciation for the medical team in the Philippines is such that just a couple of weeks ago, he shared he had entered a romantic relationship with nurse Rio Canedo.
Ms. Canedo, a 46-year-old mother of two who is divorced, accompanied Mr. Markle to the airport and wished him all the best.
The Mail reports the couple plans to maintain their connection through FaceTime, with Ms. Canedo hoping to visit him in the US sometime soon.
