Billie Eilish has revealed that acclaimed filmmaker James Cameron personally reached out to her mother with the idea of turning her concert tour into a 3D movie experience.

The Grammy-winning singer opened up about the unexpected collaboration during the premiere of Billie Eilish - Hit Me Hard and Soft: The Tour (Live in 3D) in Los Angeles on May 6.

According to Billie, the idea originated when Cameron emailed her mother, Maggie Baird, after hearing about the singer’s sold-out world tour.

Cameron’s wife reportedly knew Baird through previous connections, leading the Oscar-winning director to pitch the ambitious concept directly.

“He literally had the full idea already,” Billie shared. “He was like, ‘Why hasn’t anybody filmed Billie’s concert in 3D? Can we? Can I?’”

The singer described the proposal as an “insane idea,” admitting she still does not know how the Avatar filmmaker came up with it.

“Where did that come from, how did he think of it? I have no idea, but thank God he did,” Billie said.

The 24-year-old also revealed she immediately agreed to work with Cameron without hesitation.

“Oh my God, I didn’t even hesitate. Are you kidding?” she recalled.

Billie went on to praise Cameron’s dedication and work ethic while reflecting on their collaboration as co-directors.

“Watching him in action is really inspiring because he has so much energy and is just ready to do whatever it takes to get the shot,” she explained.

Meanwhile, Cameron praised Billie’s artistic vision, insisting the singer already had complete creative control over the concert before filming even began.

“What you have to realize with Billie is she knows exactly what she’s doing as an artist,” the director said at the premiere.

He added, “I shot it, but she created the show. So as my co-director, she’d already done so much of the work before I even showed up.”

The film, which also features Billie’s brother Finneas O'Connell, offers fans an immersive look at the singer’s 2025 world tour and arrives in theatres on May 8.
