Elon Musk attacks French prosecutors investigating X
Elon Musk has sharply criticised French judicial authorities investigating his social media platform X
Elon Musk has sharply criticised French judicial authorities investigating his social media platform X, prompting a new legal complaint from French advocacy group Stop Homophobie.
French prosecutors opened an investigation in January 2025 into allegations that X, formerly known as Twitter, was used to interfere in French politics.
The inquiry has since expanded to include suspected Holocaust denial, the spread of sexually explicit deepfakes, and possible complicity in distributing child sexual abuse material.
Responding on X to reports about the latest developments, Musk posted a mocking comment in French on Friday.
The remarks drew swift criticism and led Stop Homophobie to file a complaint alleging public insults against people based on sexual orientation or gender identity.
The organisation’s lawyer, Étienne Deshoulières, told Agence France-Presse that the group had formally submitted the complaint on Saturday.
Musk is under investigation alongside former X chief executive Linda Yaccarino. According to AFP, he recently did not respond to a request from French authorities for an informal interview.
Earlier this year, French investigators conducted a search of X’s Paris office. At the time, the company described the action as politically motivated and denied any wrongdoing.
