Katy Perry gives hilarious reaction to ex Josh Groban's engagement
Katy Perry had a hilarious take on ex-boyfriend Josh Groban's engagement, using her own iconic ballad
In a video post, Katy Perry offered a uniquely comedic take on the news that an old flame is tying the knot. The post, a screen recording of a news article announcing the engagement of singer Josh Groban, 45, to actress Natalie McQueen, 36, features a small video of Perry herself in the corner.
Dressed in a fluffy white bathrobe, the 41-year-old pop star maintains a deadpan expression as she dramatically pours a fizzy orange beverage.
With her own nostalgic hit, "The One That Got Away," playing pointedly, she raises the glass in a mock toast before taking a long sip, her face contorting into an expression of exaggerated sorrow. The post’s caption was a simple, yet perfectly ironic, "congrats."
The humour of the post lies in the long-shared history between the two musicians. Perry and Groban briefly dated back in 2009, and the "Firework" singer later confirmed during a 2017 livestream that Groban was, in fact, the inspiration behind "The One That Got Away."
Groban himself has since commented on the revelation, admitting his surprise and humorously noting that some of the song's specific lyrics didn't quite match his memories of their time together, though he stressed they have remained good friends.
Perry’s playful post shows she is well aware of the public connection between her, Groban, and the famous song, choosing to lean into the narrative with her signature campy wit. The lighthearted post comes at a busy time for the singer.
After concluding her role as a judge on American Idol, Perry is focusing on her music and is slated to headline the opening ceremony of the 2026 FIFA World Cup in Los Angeles.
