Vin Diesel gets emotional over Paul Walker’s daughter during 25th ‘Fast & Furious’ tribute
The 'Furious' star said Meadow has become a 'source of strength' for him since Paul Walker’s passing in 2013
Vin Diesel paid an emotional tribute to his late Fast & Furious co-star Paul Walker while celebrating the franchise’s 25th anniversary at the Cannes Film Festival, highlighting the enduring bond between their families.
Diesel, 58, appeared at a special screening of The Fast and the Furious alongside co-stars Jordana Brewster, Michelle Rodriguez, and Walker’s daughter, Meadow Walker, 27, who joined the cast on the red carpet and for a commemorative presentation.
During an onstage speech ahead of the screening, Diesel spoke warmly about Meadow’s presence, describing her as a symbolic continuation of the family bond he shared with her father.
“The person who was not going to let me come alone here… was Meadow Walker,” Diesel told the audience, drawing applause as he acknowledged the emotional significance of the event.
He later revealed a moment shared with Meadow during the screening, noting that she reflected on a striking parallel between her life and her father’s.
“Meadow said to me, ‘I’m 27. I’m watching this, and my father made it at 27,’” Diesel shared. “And I thought, ‘How profound.’”
Diesel said the experience reinforced the sense of family that has long defined the Fast & Furious franchise, which launched in 2001 with Diesel’s Dominic Toretto and Walker’s Brian O’Conner at its core.
“It’s the cast that’s been that family,” he said, becoming visibly emotional. “Meadow has been such a source of strength, and I know he would be so proud of her.”
Paul Walker died in a car crash in 2013 at the age of 40 before completing filming on Furious 7.
His brothers, Caleb and Cody Walker, later stepped in as body doubles to help complete his remaining scenes.
Since his passing, Meadow Walker has remained closely connected to the franchise’s legacy, including founding the Paul Walker Foundation and making a cameo in Fast X (2023).
Her appearance at Cannes marked a rare public reunion with the franchise’s core cast as they celebrated 25 years since the original film’s release.
The milestone event comes as Vin Diesel continues development on the next installment in the series, Fast Forever, which is expected to conclude the long-running saga in 2028.
