Prince William shares a candid glimpse into chaotic school mornings with Kate and the children

Prince William has offered a rare and candid look at daily life with Princess Kate and their three children, describing the often frantic school run during a live radio interview from the Isles of Scilly on Friday.

Speaking to Heart Breakfast hosts Jamie Theakston and Amanda Holden, the Duke of Cornwall confessed he is "definitely not a morning person," before painting a vivid picture of what school mornings look like for Prince George, 12, Princess Charlotte, 11, and Prince Louis, 8.

'It can be. Depends.' William on the chaos of the royal school run

When Holden put it to him that the royal school run must be "chaotic like most people's," William, 43, laughed before conceding it very much depended on the day.

He went on to describe how swiftly mornings can unravel once after-school activities enter the equation.

"If there's a guitar lesson, we go in the morning, a music lesson, you've got to get guitar on the car. 'No, we're not taking the guitar, we're sitting back for school.' 'Are we boarding and we're not? Seeing friends? No, we're not.' So there's all that going on in the morning," he said.

Jam sandwiches and Louis' sticky fingerprints

The conversation then moved on to snacks, with Holden, 55, asking whether the Wales children were "fiends for snacks." William's answer was disarmingly straightforward.

"There's a lot of jam sandwiches taken in the car, usually," William said, adding that Louis has a habit of leaving "jam fingerprints throughout the car, which is really helpful."

William hints that George has begun boarding at school

The interview also provided a significant clue for royal watchers who have long speculated about George's future schooling. In a passing remark, William appeared to confirm that his eldest child has already taken his first steps into boarding school life.

"Oh, Charlotte and Louis, because George is boarding last night, so Charlotte, Louis, if you're listening, make sure you're on time, please. Make sure you're not fighting over who's listening to what this morning," he said during his visit to the remote island, which also included the official opening of a new hospital facility supported by the Duchy of Cornwall.

The comment instantly sparked fresh speculation about George's schooling arrangements as the future king approaches his teenage years.

He currently attends Lambrook School in Berkshire alongside his siblings, though the preparatory school only educates pupils through to Year 8.

According to the school's website, Lambrook provides weekly and flexi-boarding options for children aged seven to 13, with pupils able to board anywhere from one night per week to full-time.

The school notes that most pupils participate in some form of boarding to ease the transition into senior boarding school life.

Eton or Marlborough? Speculation over George's next school continues

Observers have long speculated that George could follow his father's lead and enrol at Eton College. He was photographed touring the school alongside William and Kate in 2023.

More recently, however, thinking has shifted, with some suggesting he may instead attend Marlborough College — Kate's own alma mater — whose co-educational environment would allow Charlotte and Louis to once again share a school with their elder brother.
