RAYE has opened up about the intense pressure she placed on herself while creating her second album This Music May Contain Hope, admitting she “pushed myself to my limit” during a demanding period of nonstop touring, writing, and studio work.

Speaking to Billboard, the 28-year-old singer reflected on how work had dominated her life in the years leading up to the project’s release, describing a cycle that left little room for rest or recovery.

“There just comes a time in your life where you have to prioritise something over another,” she said.

“Work has really been my life for the last year, two years, three years. But this last year with this album, and the amount of touring, I’ve really definitely pushed myself to my limit.”

RAYE explained that the final stretch of the album rollout combined live performances with constant studio sessions, writing, editing, and production work. While she says she is proud of the outcome, she acknowledged the toll it took.

“I’ve worked really, really hard and I’m really happy to finally let this album go and have a little bit more balance,” she said, adding that she now intends to shift toward a healthier rhythm of “shows and rest time.”

The singer emphasized that the pressure was self-imposed, pointing to the ambitious vision she set for the project from the outset.

“I was the one who chose to make an album like this,” she said. “I had all these ambitious goals and ideas for it.”

RAYE also revealed that the album process was complicated further after her songwriting notebooks were stolen when her car was taken in 2024, briefly threatening the project’s progress before the materials were later recovered.

Despite the setbacks, This Music May Contain Hope followed the success of her breakthrough era My 21st Century Blues, which included the viral hit “Escapism” and earned her major industry recognition, including a BRIT Award success in 2024.

Her latest release has continued that momentum, with lead single “Where Is My Husband!” becoming her second UK number one, cementing her status as one of the UK’s most prominent contemporary pop artists.
