Carmen Electra has revealed that a self-help book played a key role in her decision to end her relationship with former NBA star Dennis Rodman, saying she ultimately realised she could not keep up with his lifestyle.

The 54-year-old actress reflected on the whirlwind romance during an appearance on the Legally Goff podcast, describing the relationship as intense, emotional, and ultimately unsustainable despite their strong connection.

Electra married Rodman in 1998 following a fast-moving romance, but the pair filed for an annulment just nine days later before briefly reconciling and eventually divorcing in 1999.

Looking back, the Baywatch star said the relationship was filled with both love and difficulty, noting that Rodman was a charismatic figure who often drew attention wherever he went.

“He was always like the pied piper of the party. Everyone followed Dennis,” she said, adding that while he was “so loving,” his lifestyle was also unpredictable and exhausting.

Electra said the relationship gradually became too difficult to maintain, particularly due to constant partying and drinking, which began to take a toll on her wellbeing.

“It was constant drinking,” she recalled. “I remember looking at myself in the mirror and I didn’t recognise myself. I had bags under my eyes. My face was puffy. And I’m in my 20s.”

She explained that a turning point came when a friend gave her a self-help book, which prompted her to reflect on her situation and eventually make a difficult decision.

“I started reading the book and I liked it,” she said. “So I went to the store and grabbed another one, and I just thought, ‘I’ve got to get away from him because what good is going to come out of this?’”

Despite the breakup, Electra stressed that her feelings for Rodman were genuine and not driven by publicity or external pressures.

“I mean, it was real love,” she said. “It wasn’t a made-up story. It wasn’t a publicity stunt. It was real love. And it’s sad, but it had to end.”

Following her split from Rodman, Electra later married guitarist Dave Navarro in 2003, with the couple divorcing in 2006.
