Suki Waterhouse opens up about emotional shift after welcoming first child

Actor and musician Suki Waterhouse has opened up about how becoming a mother has transformed her relationship with partner Robert Pattinson, saying the couple’s bond now feels like a “new relationship” after welcoming their daughter in 2024.

Waterhouse and Pattinson, who became engaged in December 2023, welcomed their first child in March 2024. The couple have kept their daughter largely out of the public eye, maintaining a strong focus on privacy as they adjust to life as first-time parents.

Speaking to Variety, Waterhouse described the emotional and physical upheaval that followed childbirth, including what she called significant internal “turmoil” during the early months of motherhood.

“Internally, there’s been quite a lot of turmoil and just wondering if I’m doing the right thing,” she said, adding that postpartum hormonal changes were particularly intense.

The Daisy Jones & The Six star said becoming parents ultimately reshaped her relationship dynamic with Pattinson, describing it as a reset rather than a continuation of what came before.

“It’s also a new relationship. Your old relationship has been wiped out, and so it’s building that new one,” she explained, adding that the couple feels they have “survived” the transition into parenthood together.

Despite the challenges, Waterhouse said the experience also helped rebuild confidence and emotional connection within their relationship.

She also addressed the couple’s decision to keep their daughter’s life private, emphasizing both safety concerns and the desire to let their child choose her own future away from public attention.

“You don’t want someone to recognize your kid in the street; it’s a safety thing,” she said, adding that they want their daughter to decide for herself whether she ever enters public life.

Waterhouse joked that their daughter is already showing a strong personality, describing her as “quite theatrical.”

Pattinson, best known for The Batman, has also recently spoken about fatherhood, admitting that it has changed his lifestyle and priorities significantly.

In a separate interview with GQ, he said he was not previously “the biggest fan of kids” but now finds parenting “the most fun thing,” noting that fatherhood has reshaped his daily routine, time management, and even how long he can be away from home.

He added that being apart from his daughter for extended periods now feels physically difficult, describing parenthood as something that has changed his “body chemistry” and outlook on life.
