Amy Sedaris shares nostalgic memories of working with Jennifer Lopez on 'Maid in Manhattan'

Amy Sedaris is looking back fondly on her time working with Jennifer Lopez—and the small on-set habit that stood out most.

Speaking at the world premiere of Netflix’s upcoming workplace comedy Office Romance, Sedaris, 65, reflected on reuniting with Lopez more than two decades after they first worked together on the 2002 romantic comedy Maid in Manhattan.

One memory, she says, has stayed with her all these years.

“Singers sing. So between takes, she’d be humming or singing,” Sedaris told People exclusively, recalling Lopez’s energy on set during filming.

Released in December 2002, Maid in Manhattan starred Lopez alongside Ralph Fiennes in the story of a hotel maid whose life changes after a chance encounter with a wealthy politician. 

Sedaris appeared in the ensemble cast alongside Natasha Richardson, Stanley Tucci, and Bob Hoskins.

Beyond the star-studded experience, Sedaris said the film also holds personal meaning for her. She revealed that she was grieving the loss of her first rabbit during production, but still remembers the shoot as a positive and comforting time.

“I really had a great experience on that movie,” she said. “It was a fun movie to work on because I was grieving.”

She also joked about one unexpected detail she remembers from that era: her appearance on set. “I had a really hot tan during that movie. I really wish I had one now,” she added.

Now, more than 20 years later, Sedaris and Lopez have reunited for Office Romance, Netflix’s upcoming comedy also starring Brett Goldstein. 

Sedaris said her role in the new film is smaller, but she was happy to return—even briefly—to work with Lopez again.

“It was good to see her again,” she said. “I hear she’s really good in the movie. The days I was there and she was working, it looked real and funny, and I can’t wait to see it.”

Office Romance is set to premiere on Netflix on June 5.
