Kurt Russell is embracing a quieter life in Colorado, revealing that moving away from Los Angeles allowed him to build the lifestyle he had long envisioned with longtime partner Goldie Hawn.

The veteran actor recently opened up about his decision to settle in Colorado during an appearance at the Madison FYC Panel in Los Angeles, explaining that the move was driven by a desire for a different way of life rather than a departure from Hollywood.

“What I want to look at, what I want to be a part of all the things that Colorado has to offer,” Russell said when discussing the appeal of the state.

The 74-year-old actor explained that he had always been drawn to the idea of ranch living and eventually turned that dream into reality.

“I wanted to eventually get into the ranching life,” he shared.

Russell and Hawn purchased property in Colorado’s Old Snowmass area decades ago and have spent years building a ranch that became the center of their family life.

Together, they raised their children — Oliver Hudson, Kate Hudson, Wyatt Russell, and Boston Russell — surrounded by nature and far from the pace of city living.

Reflecting on their early years together, Russell recalled creating a home that would grow alongside their family.

“When Goldie and I got together, a couple of years later, we both built a ranch there together, where our family has grown up. That was 40 years ago,” he said.

At the time, Russell acknowledged that many people viewed the move as a risky decision, particularly for someone working in the entertainment industry.

“I wasn't escaping. I was just living where I live,” he explained, noting that some predicted his career would suffer after leaving Los Angeles.

Despite those concerns, Russell continued to enjoy a successful career while maintaining the lifestyle he preferred.

The actor emphasized that he holds no negative feelings toward Los Angeles, but simply feels more at home in Colorado.

“I don't dislike L.A. — it’s just not my preference in terms of how I like to live my life,” he said.

Russell also credited Colorado's outdoor environment with giving his children experiences that shaped their upbringing.

“They grew up with a good dose of what nature can offer,” he said. “There are difficulties to it, but there are also great rewards to it.”

Comparing the lifestyle to his own childhood in Maine, Russell said the connection to nature has always felt like home.

Looking back on four decades spent building a life with Hawn in Colorado, the actor said he remains grateful for the opportunities it provided his family.

“Everything we did there in terms of what we built and what we have in terms of being able to offer in life for our children, I'm really, really happy that we were able to do that,” he said.
