Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are said to have held a deep affection for Frogmore Cottage, the property gifted to them as a wedding present.

That attachment is now well documented in the Duke's own words, with his memoir Spare containing candid and heartfelt reflections on their time at the Windsor residence.

A sense of destiny from the very first day

In one passage from the book, Harry recalled the tranquillity of their early mornings there and described an immediate, almost spiritual connection to the property.

"Meg and I moved our office into Buckingham Palace. We also moved into a new home. Frogmore was ready. We loved that place. From the first minute. It felt as if we were destined to live there," he wrote.

The Duke went on to describe the simple pleasures that made up their daily routine at the cottage, from strolls through the gardens to checking in on the resident swans — including one with a particularly memorable temperament.

"We couldn't wait to wake up in the morning, go for a long walk in the gardens, check in with the swans. Especially grumpy Steve.

"We met the Queen's gardeners, got to know their names and the names of all the flowers. They were thrilled at how much we appreciated, and praised, their artistry," Harry wrote.

Renovation costs and the Firm's subsequent plans

The timing of these revelations is noteworthy. Harry's affectionate recollections of Frogmore Cottage have surfaced alongside reports concerning the property's future, with the Firm said to be considering returning it to its original layout.

That would mean reinstating the internal walls that Harry and Meghan spent more than £2.4 million to remove when they first moved in following their marriage.
