Chris Brown files for joint custody in ongoing battle over daughter Lovely
The custody dispute follows weeks of public exchanges between the former partners
Chris Brown is seeking joint legal and physical custody of his 4-year-old daughter, Lovely Symphani Brown, after her mother, Diamond Brown, reportedly petitioned a Los Angeles court for primary custody.
According to court documents cited by TMZ, Diamond filed a request in May seeking sole legal and physical custody of the child, while proposing that the Grammy-winning singer be granted visitation rights.
Brown has now responded by asking the court to award joint legal and physical custody. He is also reportedly requesting that both parties cover their own legal expenses related to the custody proceedings. Diamond, in her original filing, had sought to have Brown pay her legal fees.
The custody dispute follows weeks of public tension between the former partners. Diamond recently took to social media, accusing Brown of attempting to interfere with her new relationship despite being involved in a relationship of his own.
The situation escalated when Brown’s girlfriend, Jada Wallace, publicly alleged that Diamond had been preventing the singer from spending time with his daughter.
Diamond later appeared to respond to the comments online, fueling further speculation about the ongoing disagreement.
The legal battle comes during a busy period in Brown’s personal life. He and Wallace recently welcomed a baby boy, their first child together, in late April.
Brown is also father to daughter Royalty Brown, whom he shares with former model Nia Guzman, and son Aeko Catori Brown, whom he shares with former partner Ammika Harris.
Neither Brown nor Diamond has publicly commented in detail on the latest custody filings.
