Former NFL Linebacker Darron Lee indicted for first-degree murder of girlfriend
Darron Lee indicted in girlfriend Gabriella Perpetuo’s murder case in Tennessee
Former NFL linebacker Darron Lee has been indicted on a first-degree murder charge in connection with the death of his girlfriend, Gabriella Perpetuo, in Tennessee.
The indictment was returned by a grand jury on Tuesday, June 9, according to Hamilton County District Attorney Coty Wamp, who confirmed that a tampering with evidence charge was dismissed to focus on the murder allegation, ESPN reported.
Lee, who previously played for the New York Jets, Kansas City Chiefs and Buffalo Bills, is accused of killing Perpetuo, who died in February from multiple blunt force injuries, according to a medical examiner report cited by ABC 9.
Authorities said she was found in her Ooltewah, Tennessee home with 12 injuries, including bone fractures, hematomas and stab wounds.
Arrest and Court Proceedings
Lee was initially arrested on February 6 on a murder charge and has remained in custody without bond at Hamilton County Jail.
Prosecutors allege he later used ChatGPT to search for information about injuries and how to seek medical help without alerting authorities, according to reports.
He is due to appear in court on June 17, where sentencing options, including life imprisonment or the death penalty, may be discussed.
Prior Legal Issues
Court records cited by The Bleacher Report indicate Lee had previously faced legal trouble, including allegations of assault involving his mother, his former partner and their child, as well as probation violations in Ohio and Florida.
The case remains under investigation as legal proceedings continue.
