Pathologist arrested after 32 fetal remains found in Poland
Authorities search for more burial sites linked to the case
A pathologist was arrested in Poland after the remains of more than 30 unborn babies were found buried in her former garden. The fetal remains were discovered on a property in Lutoryż, Poland, after construction workers found medical waste in the ground, according to Polish outlet TVP World.
Prosecutors said on Saturday that the remains of 32 human fetuses were discovered, per TVP World. Magdalena H. was detained in Zamość, Poland, on 12 June in connection with the crime.
Pathologist allegedly used remains for research
The pathologist allegedly told investigators that she took the fetal remains from a hospital during the COVID-19 pandemic and used them for medical research at home, TVP World reported, citing Radio Eska. Magdalena claimed she placed the remains in bags and buried them on the property after the alleged examinations.
Medical materials also found at scene
Medical materials were also found on the scene, including tubes, microscope slides and potential hospital records, per TVP World. Investigators are looking into whether there are more burial sites and any accomplices. The investigation is ongoing, and Magdalena is facing up to 12 years in prison, per TVP World.
Forensic teams search property
Forensic crews were seen sifting through the soil around the house, per The Sun. A waterworks truck was also dispatched to the scene to search drains and sewer systems for evidence. Magdalena reportedly bought the property two years ago before selling it six months ago, per The Sun. She was described by a local as "a bit strange."
