The Furious led the China box office over the June 12–14 weekend, earning RMB76.1 million ($11.2 million) and dethroning the long-running chart-topper Dear You, according to data from Artisan Gateway.

The action thriller, which opened on June 11, has now grossed $13.9 million in China, Variety reported.

Directed by veteran action filmmaker Kenji Tanigaki and produced by Bill Kong, the film stars Xie Miao as Wang Wei, a father who launches a violent campaign against a child-trafficking network after his daughter is kidnapped.

'The Furious' ends 'Dear You's box office dominance

After several weeks at No. 1, family drama Dear You slipped to second place with $8.9 million during the weekend.

The film has generated $255.7 million since its release on April 30, making it one of China's biggest domestic hits of the year.

Directed by Lan Hongchun and starring Li Sitong and Wang Yantong, the drama follows an elderly woman whose family history is uncovered when her grandson travels to Thailand in search of a grandfather rumoured to be a billionaire.

'Disclosure Day' debuts in third place

Universal's science-fiction thriller Disclosure Day, directed by Steven Spielberg, opened in third place with $2.9 million during its first three days in Chinese cinemas.

The film entered a competitive marketplace dominated by strong-performing local titles.

'Vanishing Point' reaches $80 million milestone

Crime thriller Vanishing Point finished fourth with $1.8 million, pushing its cumulative box office total to $80 million.

Directed by Cheng Wei-hao and adapted from the novel Sea Anemone, the film stars Zheng Kai and Liu Haocun in a mystery centred on a child's disappearance and the secrets hidden within a residential community.

Meanwhile, Studiocanal's World War II drama Pressure rounded out the top five with $500,000 in its second weekend, lifting its total earnings to $2.4 million.

China box office remains down sharply in 2026

Despite fresh releases and continued strength from domestic productions, China's theatrical market remains under pressure.

Weekend ticket sales across mainland China reached $28.8 million, while total box office revenue for 2026 stands at $2.41 billion.

That figure is down 41.8% compared with the same period in 2025, highlighting the ongoing challenges facing the world's second-largest cinema market.
