Chilling emergency call audio requested by prosecutors in Lindsay Clancy trial

A Massachusetts father discovered the bodies of his three young children while speaking to an emergency services operator on the phone. Prosecutors now want jurors in the upcoming murder trial of Lindsay Clancy to hear the audio recording of that emergency call on Monday. The request was detailed in a pre-trial motion obtained by PEOPLE.

Lindsay Clancy is accused of fatally strangling her children, five-year-old Cora, three-year-old Dawson, and seven-month-old Callan, in their Duxbury home in January 2023. She then allegedly slit her wrists and jumped out of a second-floor window.

Details of the emergency call

Plymouth County Assistant District Attorneys stated in the pre-trial motion that Patrick Clancy called emergency services after finding his wife. Patrick Clancy could be heard on the recording asking Lindsay Clancy where their children were located.

He remained on the phone as he walked through the house and discovered the bodies of the three children. He then yelled for help to the police officers who arrived at the suburban property. According to prosecutors, Patrick Clancy screamed out: “She killed the kids."

Evidence of exercise bands

Investigators alleges the children were found with exercise bands still wrapped around their necks. Patrick Clancy removed each of the bands as he discovered his children.

Prosecutors argued in their motion that the speed at which Patrick Clancy removed the bands is significant. They wrote that this capability is probative of whether the defendant tied the bands around the neck of each child and walked away, or whether she manually pulled the bands around each child's neck until they died. Investigators added that this evidence proves the deliberateness, extreme atrocity, and cruelty of her acts.

Planned insanity defence

Lindsay Clancy has pleaded not guilty to the murder charges. Her trial is scheduled to begin in July.

NBC Boston reported that the legal team representing Lindsay Clancy will pursue an insanity defence during the court proceedings. Her defence attorney previously stated that she struggled deeply with postpartum depression. The mother had been prescribed more than a dozen medications in the months leading up to the deaths of her children.
