A Texas woman has been arrested and charged nearly three months after a car crash that claimed the life of her 6-year-old daughter.

Courtney Getz, 21, was taken into custody on June 16 by the U.S. Marshals North Texas Fugitive Task Force and faces charges of intoxication manslaughter and possession of a controlled substance, according to the Arlington Police Department.

The charges stem from a March 25 collision on Interstate 20 in Arlington, where investigators say Getz was driving a 2014 Nissan Sentra with two children in the back seat when the vehicle struck the rear of a dump truck shortly after midnight.

Child Died Following Crash

Police said Getz and both children were transported to local hospitals after the collision. While Getz and the younger child suffered non-life-threatening injuries, her daughter, Aviah Getz, later died from injuries sustained in the crash.

Investigators believe Aviah was seated in a car seat at the time of the collision but may have become unbuckled or was not properly restrained when the crash occurred.

The driver of the dump truck was not injured.

Investigation Led to Arrest

According to police, officers who searched the vehicle recovered THC vape pens. Investigators later obtained a warrant to collect a blood sample from Getz after receiving information suggesting she may have used THC before driving.

Authorities said toxicology results confirmed the presence of THC in her blood. Toxicologists with the Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office reportedly concluded that the results indicated THC use within four to six hours before the blood sample was taken.

Police said experts determined that Getz may have been impaired at the time of the collision and should not have been operating a vehicle.

Facing Criminal Charges

Following her arrest, Getz was booked into the Arlington City Jail before being transferred to the Tarrant County Jail.

The case remains ongoing as prosecutors pursue charges connected to the crash that resulted in her daughter’s death.

Authorities have not released additional details regarding future court proceedings. The investigation remains under review as the legal process moves forward.
