American actress Maya Hawke secured a role in the upcoming franchise prequel The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping after previously deciding to pursue an acting career because of Jennifer Lawrence. The twenty-eight-year-old performer will portray a younger version of the character Wiress in the cinematic project, which adapts the bestselling novels written by author Suzanne Collins.
People reported that Hawke reflected on the profound impact the original feature films had on her professional ambitions during a recent interview. Hawke stated that she credited the initial film significantly with inspiring her desire to become an actor. The performer praised the portrayal of protagonist Katniss Everdeen by Lawrence, labelling it a standout accomplishment despite the massive scale of the blockbuster studio franchise.
Hawke explained that delivering a quality performance in a major action film remains difficult due to the numerous moving pieces within the production machine that usually work against an actor. She noted that Lawrence managed to give a singularly excellent and distinct performance that was not neutralised by the specific film genre. The upcoming cinematic release marks the second official prequel for the media franchise, following the run of The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes.
The new feature film is scheduled to arrive in global cinemas on 20 November. Hawke, who previously gained recognition for playing the character Robin Buckley in the popular Netflix television series Stranger Things, described her upcoming franchise contribution as small but deeply meaningful. She expressed excitement for her character and noted she was eager to see the final film as a genuine fan of the property.
