Anya Taylor-Joy revealed she is about to read J.R.R. Tolkien's The Lord of the Rings books for the first time after joining the cast of The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum.

Anya Taylor-Joy explains why she never read Tolkien

Speaking at the premiere of Apple TV+'s Lucky, Taylor-Joy said she had convinced herself as a child that fans could only choose between Harry Potter and The Lord of the Rings.

Variety reported that the actress admitted the idea was entirely her own and said she later realised it was possible to enjoy both franchises after watching The Lord of the Rings films during the COVID-19 pandemic.

"I'm about to read the books now, actually," she said.

Actress excited to play 'lethal' elf

Taylor-Joy also shared her excitement about joining The Hunt for Gollum, joking that she would be happy if her tombstone described her as a "lethal elf".

The actress will play Seren, a Sindar Elf of the Woodland Realm described as a trusted and lethal agent of King Thranduil.

She joins newcomers Kate Winslet, Leo Woodall and Jamie Dornan, who takes over the role of Aragorn from Viggo Mortensen.

The Hunt for Gollum brings back familiar faces

Directed by Andy Serkis, who reprises his role as Gollum, The Hunt for Gollum is set between The Hobbit and The Fellowship of the Ring and follows Aragorn's search for the elusive creature.

Ian McKellen, Elijah Wood and Lee Pace are set to return as Gandalf, Frodo and King Thranduil, respectively.

Serkis recently said Mortensen supports the film's direction and is pleased with Dornan's casting as Aragorn.
