Producer recalls Selena Gomez's question before they went public
Benny Blanco revealed that he and Selena Gomez kept their relationship private for nearly nine months before confirming their romance, saying the couple carefully considered whether to go public.
Speaking to Spanish newspaper El País, the producer recalled that Gomez gave him an opportunity to keep their relationship out of the spotlight if he preferred.
"She asked me, 'Are you sure you want to do this? I understand if you want us to just be friends,'" Blanco said. "And then I said, 'You know what? Screw it.'"
Couple kept relationship private for months
Blanco said they intentionally kept their romance out of the public eye for about eight or nine months before confirming they were together.
He added that having close friends and family who knew them before they became famous helped the couple navigate life in the spotlight.
The pair began dating in 2023 and married on September 27, 2025, nearly two years after making their relationship public.
Blanco opens up about fame and privacy
The producer admitted he is still adjusting to increased public attention, saying he prefers to keep his personal life private despite his wife's global fame.
"I don't like to expose my life," Blanco said, adding that public figures often face criticism regardless of what they share.
He explained that he usually limits his social media activity to promoting his music, occasionally posting photos of Gomez or memorable experiences.
New Spanish-language album arrives in August
Blanco also discussed his upcoming Spanish-language album, Hermoso, which is scheduled for release on August 14.
The producer said the project draws inspiration from the Latin music he grew up listening to, including cumbia, and celebrates a culture he described as creative and unafraid to challenge convention.
Gomez is rumoured to appear on the album, although her involvement has not been officially confirmed.
