A Pennsylvania groom has been charged with rape and multiple sexual assault offences after authorities alleged he assaulted a wedding guest on the night of his own wedding.

Zachary Prouty, 38, was arrested in connection with the alleged incident, which investigators said occurred following his wedding celebration in October 2025.

According to a probable cause affidavit cited by ABC 27, CBS 21 and the York Daily Record, the investigation began on Oct. 17, 2025, after police responded to Gettysburg Hospital, where a woman underwent a sexual assault examination.

The woman told investigators she had attended Prouty's wedding the previous evening, consumed alcohol and planned to spend the night at a home in Gettysburg with several other guests.

According to the affidavit, she alleged that after the other guests had gone to bed, she was alone with Prouty when he kissed her without her consent while they were sitting on a couch.

She further alleged that Prouty followed her into another room, where his behaviour continued before she lost consciousness.

The woman told investigators she awoke the following morning in an unfamiliar bedroom and found her clothes on the floor, according to the court documents.

Police said Prouty declined to provide a statement when contacted during the investigation.

Authorities later obtained a DNA sample from Prouty, which investigators allege matched DNA collected during the woman's sexual assault examination.

Prouty faces multiple charges, including rape and sexual assault. It was not immediately clear whether he has entered a plea or retained an attorney to comment on the allegations.

Court records cited by the York Daily Record show Prouty appeared in court on July 16 and was released on $50,000 bail. He is scheduled to return to court in August.
