Chicago drive-by shooting leaves one dead and three wounded
More than 60 shell casings were recovered after a deadly drive-by shooting near a South Side train station in Chicago
One person was killed and three others were injured in what police believe was a drive-by shooting near a train station on Chicago's South Side.
According to the Chicago Police Department, the shooting occurred at approximately 9:01 p.m. local time on Thursday, July 16, near the 5100 block of South Calumet Avenue, about six miles south of downtown Chicago.
Police said a black vehicle pulled up alongside a group of people before someone inside the vehicle opened fire. The vehicle then fled the scene heading east.
A 44-year-old man was struck in the chest and transported to the University of Chicago Medical Center, where he was later pronounced dead. Authorities have not yet released his identity.
Three other men, aged 34, 35 and 54, were also wounded in the shooting.
The 34-year-old and 35-year-old victims were taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital, while the 54-year-old was transported to the University of Chicago Medical Center. Police said all three were listed in good condition.
According to the Chicago Tribune, investigators recovered more than 60 rifle shell casings near the intersection of South Calumet Avenue and 51st Street, and police cordoned off the entrance to the nearby train station as the investigation continued.
The shooting was one of several violent incidents reported across Chicago on Thursday evening.
Local reports said another man was struck by gunfire roughly six minutes later in a separate incident on South Hermitage Avenue. Authorities also responded to two domestic-related shootings elsewhere in the city.
No arrests have been announced in connection with the suspected drive-by shooting, and detectives continue to investigate.
