Rosie O'Donnell considers part-time return to US after Ireland move
Actress says she wants a New Jersey home to spend more time with family
Rosie O'Donnell revealed she is considering buying a home in New Jersey, allowing her to spend more time with her children and grandchildren while continuing to live in Ireland.
The actress and comedian shared the update during an appearance on Sophia Bush's Work in Progress podcast, months after relocating to Ireland following the start of President Donald Trump's second term.
Family is bringing her back
O'Donnell said she sold everything before leaving the United States but now hopes to establish a home base near her family.
"I sold everything before I left, and so I'm hoping to get a place in New Jersey near my kids so that I could, when I'm home, we can have a home base here as well," she said.
The move comes after her son Blake welcomed his first child, Anthony, in March. O'Donnell said she is looking forward to spending more time with her growing family.
New York still feels like home
While promoting her one-woman show Common Knowledge, O'Donnell admitted New York still feels familiar, though returning also brings anxiety.
She described the city as "home" but said it now feels louder and more overwhelming after living in Ireland.
Ireland offers peace and privacy
O'Donnell moved to Ireland in early 2025 with her youngest child, Clay, saying at the time that the political climate in the US had become difficult for her.
She told Bush that Ireland's lower-profile celebrity culture has helped improve her mental well-being, allowing her to live a quieter life away from constant public attention.
Politics will shape her future plans
Although she is planning to buy a property in New Jersey, O'Donnell said she remains uncertain about permanently returning to the US.
She said her long-term decision will depend on the political climate and whether she feels mentally healthy enough to live in America again.
