Josh Duhamel recalls when 21-year age gap 'finally hit' him
Duhamel shares the story behind his 'too old' comment about Mari
Josh Duhamel opened up about the moment his 21-year age gap with wife Audra Mari truly sank in, revealing that an old family photo made him joke that he was "officially too old" for her.
The Ransom Canyon star shared the story during a recent appearance on The HoneyDew With Ryan Sickler podcast.
Family photo sparked the realisation
Duhamel, 53, recalled that his younger sister, Kassidy, was born when he was 21 and playing college football at Minot State University.
Looking back at a photo of himself holding his newborn sister, the actor noticed something surprising.
"I looked at the photo, and I looked at my wife, and I said, 'You know, you and Kassidy are exactly the same age,'" Duhamel said.
He admitted the comparison made him realise just how large the age gap between him and Mari had become.
'I am officially too old for you'
The actor said he jokingly turned to Mari, 32, after making the connection.
"'Ooof, I am officially too old for you,'" he recalled telling her, adding that his wife and sister are only months apart in age.
Duhamel said he had never viewed their age difference that way until seeing the old photograph.
Couple share two children
Duhamel and Mari married in 2022 after dating for four years.
They welcomed their first child together, a son, in January 2024, followed by a daughter in May 2026.
Mari previously said the actor would likely have wanted an even bigger family if he had been younger.
Duhamel remains close with ex-wife Fergie
The actor also shares son Axl with ex-wife Fergie, whom he divorced in 2019.
Speaking earlier this year, Duhamel said the former couple simply "outgrew each other" but continue to have a healthy co-parenting relationship. He also praised Fergie as a "great mom" and said she gets along well with Mari.
