Rebecca Luna, TikTok creator who shared Alzheimer’s journey, dies at 49
The TikTok creator gained a following by sharing her health journey, medical updates and advocacy for end-of-life choices
Rebecca Luna, the TikTok creator who documented her experience living with young-onset Alzheimer’s disease, has died after choosing medical aid in dying (MAID). She was 49.
According to a post shared on her TikTok account, Luna died on Saturday, July 25, surrounded by her loved ones.
“Rebecca passed away July 25th at approximately 1:15 p.m., surrounded by her loved ones,” the post read, while thanking her followers for their support and privacy.
The Victoria, British Columbia-based single mother became known online after sharing her Alzheimer’s diagnosis with her followers in April 2025, when she was 48 years old.
Through her platform, Luna openly discussed her medical appointments, treatment journey and decision to pursue MAID.
Her videos gained widespread attention, with thousands of followers following along as she shared updates about her condition and answered questions about end-of-life options and MAID laws.
Luna also became an advocate for people considering their choices at the end of life, using her platform to provide information and share her personal experience.
During her time online, Luna’s story also reached pop star Lily Allen, whom she had long admired.
After posting a video asking if she could meet the singer at one of her concerts, Luna later shared that she was able to fulfil the wish.
“I told her that it was my bucket list to meet her,” Luna said in a follow-up video. “It was the best experience.”
On July 22, Luna told her followers that she had moved her MAID date from early August to July 25.
In her final video, she explained that the decision came after months of medical and legal considerations, along with her own personal struggles living with her condition.
“Prior to the dates changing for the last year and a half has been legally and medically not my choice. But for the last two weeks I’ve been making the decision,” she said.
Luna also reflected on the emotional challenges she had faced and shared that the experience had helped her better understand herself and her worth.
“I really know who I am and I really know that I have a good heart,” she said.
Before her death, Luna left her followers with a message about self-love and advocating for themselves. She said she hoped people would learn to support and care for themselves in the same way she had learned to do.
“I hope if I leave this planet that’s the only thing I teach — and that’s the only thing that somebody gets something out of — is that you just need to act your way into loving yourself,” Luna said. “If I can do it, you can do it too.”
