Top 5 craziest lawsuits of 2025

2025 is shaping up to be a year full of Hollywood drama, from public meltdowns to A-list engagements and breakups, but it’s the mounting lawsuits that take the cake.

From Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs finally facing court for multiple sexual abuse and trafficking charges against him, and Blake Lively and Justin Baldoni battling it out over alleged sexual harassment, to Taylor Swift being chased down over copyright infringement, the courts sure are busy this year.

Here’s a run-down of the five biggest legal battles squaring off in courts in 2025.

Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs

Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs sexual assault trial has been decades in the making, but it all came to a head in November 2023 when his ex, singer Cassie Ventura, sued him over alleged physical and sexual assault. The case was settled quickly, with Diddy vehemently denying the allegations.

However, Cassie’s accusations led to a barrage of lawsuits against Diddy, with several women and men coming forward with similar allegations of sexual assault and violence. A video of Diddy seemingly physically abusing Cassie also went viral.

In September 2024, Diddy was arrested at the Park Hyatt hotel in New York on charges of sex trafficking among other criminal charges. Prosecutor reports claim that Diddy ran a full blown criminal enterprise that included sex trafficking, kidnapping, racketeering, and sexual exploitation through violence. They also referred to ‘freak-off’ parties arranged by him where victims would be coerced into depravity and recorded against their will.

Diddy’s trial is set to start May 12, and if convicted, the disgraced music mogul could face up 15 years or life in prison.

Justin Baldoni vs. Blake Lively

Perhaps one of the messiest Hollywood legal battle of 2024 and 2025 came when news broke that Blake Lively had filed a complaint accusing her It Ends With Us costar Justin Baldoni of alleged sexual harassment after months of speculation of strained relations between the two.

Baldoni responded by suing The New York Times, who published the expose, for $250 million, prompting Lively to upgrade her complaint to a full blown lawsuit.

What followed was a PR nightmare for the two; Baldoni countersued Lively and her husband Ryan Reynolds for $400 million over alleged defamation, invasion of privacy and even extortion!

The trial between Lively and Baldoni is set to start in March 2026.

Drake vs. Kendrick Lamar

A rap beef turned into a legal feud when rapper Drake sued the Universal Music Group in January 2025 for promoting Kendrick Lamar’s mega-hit 2024 album and tracks targeting him.

For the unversed, summer 2024 was rocked when Drake and Lamar went head to head releasing diss tracks against each other, but it was Lamar’s Not Like Us that got the last laugh, ending up on the year’s most-streamed songs list!

After Drake took particular offense to lyrics suggesting sexual misconduct on his part, he sued the label he and Lamar share citing ‘false factual allegation’. He then expanded the lawsuit after Lamar performed the song at the sold out Super Bowl Halftime show in February!

Jay-Z

Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs expansive legal case has trapped more than just him; fellow music mogul Jay-Z was dragged into it in December 2024 when an anonymous woman filed a civil lawsuit against him alleging sexual assault at the hands of both Jay-Z and Diddy in 2000 when she was 13.

Jay-Z categorically denied the allegations, claiming that the lawsuit was a ‘blackmail attempt’ by attorney Tony Buzbee who he said believed that ‘public scrutiny would make me (Jay-Z) want to settle’. To this, Jay-Z said in his statement shared with Entertainment Weekly, “No sir, it had the opposite effect. It made me want to expose you for the fraud you are in a VERY public fashion.”

Two months later, after inconsistencies were found in the woman’s story, she dropped the case. In March 2025, Jay-Z retaliated by suing her and her lawyers for defamation, claiming that the lawsuit was an attempt at extortion, and that it had caused him damages and losses exceeding $20 million.

Taylor Swift

After an eventful few years with her record-breaking Eras Tour and multiple charting albums, Taylor Swift has found herself in a bit of a problem; a Florida-based poet Kimberly Marasco is reportedly hounding Swift after accusing her of copying her original work, as per Newsweek.

Marasco, who first sued Swift in 2024, is seeking $25 million from her lawsuit against the Folklore hit maker, claiming that Swift has ‘plagiarized’ creative elements from Marasco’s poetry in many of her songs across several albums.

However, the case is stalled as Marasco claims Swift’s location is ‘unpredictable’, effectively meaning that she can’t serve summons to Swift as she’s unable to locate the singer. As per reports, Marasco has been warned that the case could be dismissed if she fails to serve Swift in time, and has now turned to police for help!
