Italy’s top film honors are gearing up for a competitive year, as nominations for the 71st David di Donatello Awards were officially unveiled at the iconic Cinecittà Studios in Rome on Thursday.
Leading the race is The Last One For The Road, directed by Francesco Sossai, which secured an impressive 16 nominations.
The road movie first made waves on the international festival circuit with its premiere at the Cannes Film Festival in the Un Certain Regard section in 2025, earning critical attention for its storytelling and direction.
Close behind is La Grazia from acclaimed director Paolo Sorrentino, which garnered 14 nominations.
The film debuted at the Venice Film Festival, further cementing Sorrentino’s reputation as one of Italy’s most celebrated contemporary filmmakers.
Another strong contender is The Tasters by Silvio Soldini, which earned 13 nominations.
The World War II drama has been praised for its historical depth and compelling narrative.
Meanwhile, box office hit Buen Camino by Gennaro Nunziante, starring popular comedian Checco Zalone, received a more modest recognition with a single nomination for Best Original Song, despite its commercial success.
The winners of the 71st David di Donatello Awards will be announced during a ceremony set to take place at Cinecittà on May 6, bringing together the biggest names in Italian cinema for one of the industry’s most prestigious nights.
