Gillian Anderson collects Best Supporting Actor award for Sean Penn at 2026 EE BAFTAs

Sean Penn has been named Best Supporting Actor at the 2026 EE BAFTA Film Awards 2026 for his role as Colonel Steven J. Lockjaw in the action-thriller One Battle After Another.

Penn, 65, fended off strong competition from Benicio del Toro, Jacob Elordi,Frankenstein, Paul Mescal,Hamnet, Peter Mullan,I Swear, and Stellan Skarsgård. Sentimental Value.

As Penn was not in attendance, 57-year-old Gillian Anderson accepted the award on his behalf, co-presenting the prize with 48-year-old Maggie Gyllenhaal.

Anderson quipped on stage: “So I'm taking it.” Gyllenhaal added reassuringly: “We'll make sure he gets it.”

Earlier in the ceremony, Wunmi Mosaku was named Best Supporting Actress for her role as Annie in the 2025 supernatural horror Sinners.

She beat out Odessa A’zion Marty Supreme, Inga Ibsdotter Lilleaas Sentimental Value, Carey Mulligan The Ballad of Wallis Island, Teyana Taylor One Battle After Another, and Emily Watson Hamnet to claim her first EE BAFTA Film Award.

The award night, held at London’s Royal Festival Hall, celebrated a mix of high-octane thrillers, dramatic performances, and standout supporting roles, with Penn’s performance recognized for its commanding presence in a star-studded ensemble.
