Karla Sofía Gascón mocks Timothée Chalamet's ballet comment
The shows 'Jeopardy' and 'The View' also took issue with Chalamet’s remarks
Karla Sofía Gascón playfully mocked Timothée Chalamet over his comments regarding ballet and opera.
On Monday, the Spanish actress shared a meme on her Instagram Stories, showing an imagined phone call from Chalamet, asking if the Oscars would make him miss the red carpet on Sunday.
The meme alluded to her past controversial tweets on racism and Islamophobia resurfacing soon after she broke barriers at the 2025 Oscars by becoming the first transgender woman to earn a best actress nomination for “Emilia Pérez.”
“Are you a trans woman? If not, no worries, Tim,” Gascón joked in the meme.
She added, “By the way, I adore ballet shoes and I’ve watched ‘The Phantom of the Opera’ a dozen times. Not sure if that counts. Best of luck at the awards. Even though people haven’t actually seen or heard me say anything, while they have both seen and listened to you, they still seem more willing to believe whatever falsehoods are thrown my way.”
Chalamet stirred up a storm when he expressed he didn’t want to work in ballet or opera, saying it’s like sustaining something “no one cares about anymore,” during a town hall hosted by Variety and CNN last month.
He was quick to clarify, “Much respect to all those in ballet and opera… I just lost 14 cents in viewers.”
His statements quickly made waves online, drawing criticism from ballet and opera professionals.
Misty Copeland responded to the “Dune” actor, stating he shouldn’t “draw comparisons” between his field and other art forms.
“He might not have the acting career and opportunities he enjoys as a film star if opera and ballet weren’t relevant,” the ballet star explained on Sunday. “All these art forms have a place.”
The shows “Jeopardy” and “The View” also took issue with Chalamet’s remarks.
