Anne Hathaway seeks harmony rather than balance in motherhood

The acclaimed actress Anne Hathaway has candidly admitted that achieving a perfect balance between a high-profile acting career and motherhood feels nearly impossible.

Speaking with Harper's Bazaar, the forty-three-year-old mother of two sons, Jack and Jonathan, opened up about the emotional toll of raising a family while maintaining her professional commitments.

The "Devil Wears Prada 2" star confessed to feeling "very defeated" by the traditional concept of balance, noting that her priorities have shifted significantly since becoming a parent.

Reflecting on her life before children, Hathaway explained that her professional drive was once "uncompromising and uninterrupted," but the reality of parenting has since introduced constant interruptions.

"Before, there was this focus that was really uncompromising and uninterrupted," she shared during the interview.

She further elaborated on the daily challenges, stating: "And I just can’t tell you anymore what life is like without kids, but kids interrupt you all the time."

The actress revealed that she and her close friends frequently discuss these pressures, finding the metaphorical "weight" of balance to be exhausting.

"If the weight shifts in one direction, you then have to bounce it up on the other side, and we find that it winds us up as opposed to making us steady," she remarked.

Consequently, Hathaway has moved away from the idea of perfect equilibrium in favour of self-forgiveness. "We’re like, ‘We seek to harmonize our life,’ " she added.

Having recently completed several major film projects, Hathaway continues to navigate her evolving role as both a leading Hollywood figure and a devoted mother.
