‘Sex and the City’ star Kristin Davis recalls bold scene that never aired
The lost subplot was cut before the episode aired, leaving fans unaware
Kristin Davis is revisiting a long-lost moment from Sex and the City, one that never made it to air.
Speaking on her podcast,Are You a Charlotte?, the actress reflected on a deleted storyline from season 2, episode13, after reconnecting with guest actor Jason McDonald, who appeared in the unaired scenes.
McDonald revealed he had been cast as a character named Emerson in the episode, titled “Games People Play,” but only discovered months later that their entire subplot had been removed.
According to him, the storyline featured a flirtatious encounter between his character and Charlotte York during an Upper East Side party. What began as subtle chemistry quickly escalated into a bold moment.
“You put me up against the bookshelf and kissed me,” McDonald recalled, describing a scene that surprised Davis herself.
The actress admitted she had little memory of the moment, likely because the footage never aired.
“I don’t have a clear memory,” she said, noting she vaguely remembered filming a party sequence but not the specifics.
Instead, the episode ultimately explained Charlotte’s abrupt exit through voiceover, with the flirtatious subplot left on the cutting room floor.
Davis speculated that limited screen time may have contributed to the decision, pointing to a guest appearance by Jon Bon Jovi in the same episode.
“No one can compete with Jon Bon Jovi,” she joked.
For McDonald, the experience was bittersweet. The role marked a major early milestone in his career, and he had even hosted a watch party when the episode aired, only to find his scenes entirely absent.
Despite the disappointment, he said the story has remained a memorable one over the years.
Davis, however, expressed sympathy for the actor, acknowledging the emotional toll such moments can have in the industry.
“As an actor, it’s just so painful,” she said. “You get these parts, you’re excited… and then it’s gone.”
