Andrew Garfield gets candid about doom scrolling and hidden online habits
The actor reveals he uses private 'creeper accounts' to stay connected online
Andrew Garfield is getting candid about his relationship with social media — even without having an official presence online.
Speaking at the London premiere of The Magic Faraway Tree on March 22, the 42-year-old actor admitted he struggles with doom scrolling just like everyone else.
“I’m just as bad as everyone else,” Garfield said. “Because I’m a human, and they’ve somehow managed to tap into our human addictive responses. So no, I’m not immune to it.”
Despite not maintaining any public social media accounts, Garfield revealed that he still keeps a few private ones to browse online content.
“I don’t have social media,” he explained. “I have, like, creeper accounts in certain places. And I have to be very, very disciplined with myself.”
The actor’s secret scrolling habits aren’t entirely new to fans. His We Live in Time co-star Florence Pugh previously hinted at his undercover activity during a Vanity Fair segment, joking about his use of social platforms before realizing she may have revealed too much.
Beyond his own habits, Garfield also expressed admiration for those who are able to limit screen time — particularly parents managing children in the digital age.
“The idea of being able to do that with young kids is such a [nearly] impossible feat,” he said, praising friends and family members who successfully maintain boundaries around social media use.
