John Kim has joined Hunter Page-Lochard and Kate Stewart in the Australian television drama series Fortitude Valley.
The actor from Cruel Intentions, who is expected to appear in the 2027 film Voltron, will take on the role of Gavin Chang, a Detective Senior Constable assigned to a task force tackling two unsolved murder cases.
Kim is known for his leading roles in the TNT series The Librarians, the Prime Video reboot of Cruel Intentions, and the Apple TV series WondLa.
He will also feature in the upcoming animated film Voltron directed by Rawson Marshall Thurber and the K-pop thriller Perfect Girl by Hong Won-ki, a project we announced last year.
Fortitude Valley, created by Moving Floor Entertainment, is a crime series situated in the heart of Brisbane, Australia.
The suspenseful thriller is described in a synopsis as being “set against the backdrop of both the sunny and shadowy sides of Queensland’s capital, delving into family secrets, the corrupting force of power, and the complex truths behind the lies we tell.”
Page-Lochard (Reckless, The Newsreader) and Stewart (Offspring, Black Snow) are leading the series, with filming and post-production taking place exclusively in Queensland, beginning next month.
As a result, the show receives backing from Screen Queensland’s Screen Finance Fund and their Post, Digital, and Visual Effects Incentive.
The series is scheduled to premiere on ABC TV and ABC iView in 2027.
ABC’s Head of Scripted, Rachel Okine, expressed that the network is “thrilled to return to Brisbane and collaborate with such an exceptional creative team to bring Fortitude Valley to the ABC.”
