The inaugural Asian Eurovision Song Contest is happening, with the vibrant city of Bangkok, Thailand set to be the host.
Bringing together the European Broadcasting Union (EBU), live-events producer Voxovation, S2O Productions, and Thailand’s Channel 3, the highly anticipated Eurovision Song Contest Asia is scheduled for its grand finale on Saturday, November 14.
Broadcasters from ten nations have confirmed participation, showcasing performers and songs from South Korea, Thailand, the Philippines, Vietnam, Malaysia, Cambodia, Laos, Bangladesh, Nepal, and Bhutan. Additional nations are anticipated to join in.
Expanding international editions of the Eurovision Song Contest has become a major goal for the EBU in recent years.
Despite the European version serving as a focal point for political debates, some countries are considering not participating in the 70th edition in May due to Israel’s participation.
Today, Green expressed, "As we celebrate the 70th year of the Eurovision Song Contest, embarking on this new chapter with Asia feels significant, recognising the region's cultural richness, creativity, and talent."
“This is about evolving Eurovision alongside Asia, crafting something that mirrors the region’s voices, identities, and aspirations while maintaining the essence that has always made the Contest unique. The Eurovision Song Contest Asia will be shaped by the artists, broadcasters, and audiences who participate, continuing our shared adventure of being United by Music.”
Peter Settman, CEO and co-founder of Voxovation, commented, “From the outset, our goal was to collaborate with Asia’s most talented creatives to develop a show that genuinely reflects the region’s identity and creative vibrancy.”
The choice of Bangkok as the venue benefits the city, which is also set for filming projects like Oliver Stone’s upcoming movie White Lies and the Sylvester Stallone-produced John Rambo. It was also a filming location for FX’s Alien: Earth.
“When I learned that the European Broadcasting Union and Voxovation were considering Bangkok as the location for the Eurovision Song Contest Asia, I thought, of course, it should be Bangkok, a city where cultures blend, music resonates, and celebration is part of daily life,” stated Chuwit Sirivajjakul, Deputy Governor for Policy and Planning at the Thailand Tourism Authority.
Zoop is the exclusive social partner for the Eurovision Song Contest Asia, offering a fan engagement platform to connect with artists, join communities, and receive recognition and rewards for their participation.
