'Succession' star Brian Cox works out three times a week at 79
The actor emphasises responsibility for both physical and mental health
Brian Cox is prioritizing his health as he approaches a major milestone, revealing that discipline and consistency are key to staying active at 79.
The Succession star shared in a recent interview with The Times that he maintains a strict fitness routine, hitting the gym three times a week as he prepares to turn 80 in June.
“Gym three times a week,” Cox said. “You really have to be responsible for your body, because it’s dying. You can’t give in to that.”
Beyond physical fitness, Cox is also focused on maintaining his cognitive health, noting that he takes proactive steps to reduce the risk of dementia.
“There’s all kinds of protocols I can take,” he explained, adding that staying mentally sharp is essential for his work as an actor. “I need to learn my lines to keep working.”
The veteran performer has previously spoken candidly about his health, including his experience with diabetes.
In a past interview, he admitted the condition can sometimes affect his mood, joking that he can become “hangry” if his diet isn’t managed carefully.
Cox’s remarks echo comments from his Succession co-stars, including Kieran Culkin, who once joked that a quick snack is often the solution to the actor’s impatience on set.
Meanwhile, Sarah Snook has described his bursts of energy as part of his dynamic presence during filming.
Despite occasional challenges, Cox remains committed to his overall well-being. He has also revealed in the past that he unknowingly contracted COVID-19, later discovering he had antibodies despite experiencing no noticeable symptoms.
