Judge Judy recommends pistol over romance to stunned TV producer
Television icon Judge Judy humorously claimed to sleep like a baby with her firearm
Television legend Judge Judy Sheindlin reportedly offered unconventional advice to a long-time associate, suggesting personal weaponry over romantic pursuits.
Former Entertainment Tonight producer Fran Weinstein revealed that during an interview at the judge’s Connecticut home, she asked the legal icon for help finding a partner.
However, Her Honour had a different solution in mind. Weinstein recalled: “‘Franny, you don’t need a man. I’m going to show you what you need.” According to Weinstein, Sheindlin then retrieved a safe from a high shelf and produced a .32 calibre pistol.
She reportedly told the stunned producer: “Franny, Jerry was gone last night. I put this under my pillow, and slept like a baby.”
While Sheindlin stated she has no memory of the specific event, she remarked: “However, if I did remember it, I would like to take credit for it–It’s brilliant!”
The anecdote is featured in Weinstein’s upcoming memoir, Tortured Soles: High Heels, Low Expectations and the Hollywood Gossip Mill, scheduled for release on 28 April 2026.
The book documents her extensive career interviewing celebrities such as George Clooney and Robin Williams. Weinstein, who retired in 2013, also details more harrowing industry experiences, including a three-day ordeal with actor Jan-Michael Vincent.
Sheindlin, famously married to husband Jerry for over forty years despite a brief divorce in 1990, continues to be a formidable figure in television arbitration and legal commentary.
