Google launches Gemini notebooks for enhanced project organisation
Google confirmed that paid AI subscribers can access new notebooks starting this week
Google has announced the launch of "notebooks," a significant new feature for its Gemini AI chatbot designed to help users organise complex projects in a single location.
Unveiled on Wednesday, the tool allows users to aggregate files, past conversations, and custom instructions into dedicated spaces.
By doing so, Gemini can utilise these specific materials as a persistent context for ongoing interactions, effectively acting as a "personal knowledge base."
This new capability bears a strong resemblance to the "Projects" feature introduced by ChatGPT in 2024, which similarly enables users to store topic-specific information.
However, Google’s offering distinguishes itself through deep integration with the company's ecosystem. Specifically, Gemini’s notebooks sync automatically with NotebookLM, Google’s AI-powered research and note-taking platform.
This means that any source added in one application—such as a PDF or a link to a YouTube video—will immediately be available in the other, allowing users to leverage specialised tools like "Video Overviews" or infographics seamlessly across platforms.
The rollout for notebooks began this week for web users subscribed to Google’s AI Ultra, Pro, and Plus plans. Google indicated that the feature is expected to arrive for mobile users and those on the free tier in the coming weeks.
This update follows a series of advancements for Gemini, including the release of the Gemini 3.1 Pro model earlier this year, which focused on significantly enhancing the AI's reasoning capabilities and native multimodal processing.
