Lucy Liu hints at secret character in ‘The Devil Wears Prada 2’ sequel

Lucy Liu has announced her involvement in the highly anticipated sequel, The Devil Wears Prada 2.

She stated that details about her character are still under wraps ahead of the film's release.

The 57-year-old actress will star alongside Meryl Streep, Anne Hathaway, Emily Blunt and Stanley Tucci in the follow-up to the 2006 hit fashion drama.

Speaking in an exclusive interview with People, Liu described her role as a “mystery,” noting that very little has been disclosed publicly.

She added that the secrecy surrounding her character is part of what makes the project exciting for audiences.

“I think that’s what’s special about it,” she said, suggesting that fans are eager to see how the story unfolds two decades after the original film.

The sequel revisits the world of high fashion and media, following Miranda Priestly as she navigates the evolving publishing industry and a new power struggle with Emily Charlton, now a major executive within a luxury conglomerate.

Liu praised the project’s scale and style, saying the film promises strong visual appeal while also exploring how the characters have evolved over time.

“It’s going to be highly entertaining,” she said, adding that audiences will see familiar characters in a new light rather than a repeat of the original story.

The actress also expressed admiration for the franchise, calling herself a longtime fan of the original The Devil Wears Prada, based on Lauren Weisberger’s novel.

Reflecting on her experience on set, Liu said working with the ensemble cast felt surreal, describing it as “almost like a reverie.”

She highlighted the opportunity to share scenes with Streep and Hathaway, calling the experience particularly memorable and rare, especially as an actor joining an established and beloved cinematic universe.

The sequel, The Devil Wears Prada 2, is scheduled to hit theaters on May 1, 2026.
