The Los Angeles Police Department has announced the arrest of 21-year-old music artist David Anthony Burke, professionally known as D4vd, in connection with the death of Celeste Rivas Hernandez.

Burke is currently being held without bail following a high-profile investigation into the discovery of the 14-year-old girl’s remains.

The teenage victim was found in the trunk of an impounded Tesla, registered to the singer, on 8 September 2025. The arrest on Thursday follows months of forensic analysis and a grand jury probe.

Officers initially responded to an impound lot after reports of a foul odour emanating from the vehicle, which had been towed from the Hollywood Hills after being abandoned for roughly a month.

LAPD Captain Scot M. Williams previously told PEOPLE that Rivas had likely been dead "for several weeks" before her body was discovered, just one day after she would have celebrated her 15th birthday.

While the specific cause of death remains under investigation, detectives successfully petitioned a judge to seal the autopsy findings, citing an "ongoing investigation of murder."

Prosecutors previously suggested the victim "may have been a victim of foul play." Although Burke’s representatives formerly claimed he was "fully cooperating," police sources alleged he had been uncooperative during earlier stages of the enquiry.

Rivas had been reported missing from Lake Elsinore on multiple occasions in 2024. Despite his burgeoning music career and successful 2023 EP Petals to Thorns, Burke now faces a legal battle that will see his case presented to the District Attorney’s office this coming Monday.
