Acclaimed actor David Harbour has officially joined the cast of Lionsgate’s highly anticipated Rambo prequel, titled John Rambo.

The Golden Globe nominee is set to portray Major Trautman, the commanding officer and mentor to the titular soldier.

This origin story, directed by Jalmari Helander, features Noah Centineo in the lead role, famously originated by Sylvester Stallone in 1982.

Scripted by Rory Haines and Sohrab Noshirvan, the narrative explores the formative years and harrowing experiences that forged the complex character decades before the events of First Blood.

The production, currently filming in Bangkok, Thailand, features a diverse ensemble including Jason Tobin, Quincy Isaiah, and Jefferson White.

Harbour’s character, Trautman, was previously played by the late Richard Crenna in the original trilogy. Sylvester Stallone has notably signed on as an executive producer for this project, joining a powerhouse production team from Millennium Media and AGBO.

Producers Kevin King Templeton and Les Weldon are overseeing the film, which aims to provide a gritty, deep dive into the roots of the legendary Vietnam veteran.

Fans of the franchise are eager to see how Harbour interprets the authoritative yet protective mentor figure who serves as Rambo's primary link to his military past.

The prequel builds upon the legacy established by David Morrell’s 1972 novel and the five subsequent films released between 1982 and 2019.

Harbour recently gained global recognition for his role in Stranger Things, while Centineo is known for his work in Black Adam. Both actors are expected to bring a fresh intensity to this storied cinematic universe.
