Sandra Bullock opens up about learning social media after Instagram debut
The actress has already gained millions of followers shortly after debuting on the platform
Sandra Bullock has started a new digital chapter and is excited to join Instagram, quickly amassing millions of followers on the platform.
The 61-year-old actress recently made her debut on the social media app and has already attracted more than five million followers within days, despite admitting she is still getting familiar with how it works.
Speaking at the CNBC Changemakers 2026 event in New York City, Bullock said social media never felt like something she would naturally gravitate toward, but explained that her perspective changed over time.
“I do have two kids, and I was like, I need to figure this out,” she said, adding that she had previously used social platforms quietly for learning and online shopping rather than public posting.
Bullock described her approach as cautious rather than spontaneous, saying she prefers to think carefully before sharing anything online.
“I need to think about it,” she said. “How does that affect what I can contribute? How badly can I mess it up? Which, that will come, and I’m just going to lean into that.”
The Oscar-winning actress also said she is still figuring out what kind of content she wants to share, making it clear she does not plan to post traditional celebrity-style updates.
“I will not be doing selfies or makeup tutorials,” she said, adding that she is open to embracing a more humorous or self-aware approach if she becomes more active on the platform.
Bullock’s cautious entry into social media comes after she previously warned fans about fake accounts using her name and image in online scams.
At the time, she emphasized that she does not actively participate in social media and urged the public to be careful of impersonation accounts.
