Kelli O’Hara breaks down in tears after family surprise at 'Fallen Angels' set

Kelli O’Hara received an emotional birthday surprise on the set of Broadway’s Fallen Angels, after her mother’s health issues prevented her parents from attending opening celebrations.

The Tony Award winner, who turned 50 on Thursday, April 16, was initially preparing for the revival of Noël Coward’s classic without her parents, who have attended nearly every major opening in her career, due to her mother’s illness.

However, during a pre-show meeting at the production, O’Hara was unexpectedly joined by her father Pat and brother Patrick, who flew in from Oklahoma carrying balloons in a surprise orchestrated by her husband Greg Naughton, her management team, and the Roundabout Theatre Company.

Video shared by O’Hara on Instagram captured the emotional moment in which she immediately dropped to her knees in tears upon seeing her family enter the room.

“I nearly had a heart attack,” she wrote in her caption, describing the surprise as the result of “very stealthy work” behind the scenes. She also expressed gratitude to her husband, manager Erica Tuchman, and the production team for coordinating the moment.

The surprise came just days before opening night of Fallen Angels, which runs at the Todd Haimes Theatre in New York City through June 7.

The production marks the first Broadway revival of Noël Coward’s 1925 comedy in more than 70 years, with O’Hara starring alongside Rose Byrne and Mark Consuelos.

Directed by Scott Ellis, the play follows two upper-class women whose lives are disrupted when they discover they have both had romantic ties to the same man.

O’Hara, a longtime Broadway favorite with more than 15 stage credits, said the emotional reunion left her “filled up,” adding that her father and brother would remain in New York for opening night.

The moment added a deeply personal milestone to an already significant week for the actress as she celebrates both a major birthday and a high-profile return to Broadway.
