Dave Mason, the legendary lead singer and co-founder of the influential band Traffic, has died at the age of 79.

'The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame' inductee passed away peacefully at his home in Gardnerville, Nevada, on Sunday.

A statement released by his representative confirmed the news, noting that the celebrated songwriter and author lived a "remarkable life devoted to the music and the people he loved."

His family shared that after cooking dinner with his wife, Winifred, he passed away in his favourite chair, surrounded by the beautiful Carson Valley he adored.

The musician’s Instagram account described the peaceful moment as a "storybook ending" occurring on his own terms.

"He leaves a lasting imprint on the soundtrack of our lives and the hearts he has lifted. His legacy will be cherished forever," the statement continued.

While no official cause of death has been revealed, the loss marks the end of a career that spanned over six decades.

Mason is survived by his wife and partner, Winifred Wilson, his daughter Danielle, and several extended family members. He was preceded in death by his son, True, and his sister, Valerie Leonard.

Beyond his work with Traffic in the 1960s, Mason enjoyed a highly successful solo career with hits such as "Feelin’ Alright?" and "We Just Disagree."

In 2024, he was forced to cancel his Traffic Jam Tour due to a serious heart condition, eventually announcing his full retirement from touring in 2025, citing ongoing health challenges.
