You might pull Christopher Meloni out of the Law & Order world, but the Law & Order legacy stays with Christopher Meloni.

On April 24, the 65-year-old actor shared a series of photos on Instagram of himself having a meal with longtime friend and costar Mariska Hargitay.

"What you do on an ordinary Thursday when in L.A. and newly jobless. Dinner time with friends therealmariskahargitay," he wrote in the post, tagging Hargitay as a collaborator.

In the final picture of the series, Hargitay can be seen taking a selfie with none other than Rachel McAdams, who appears to be at the same place.

On April 16, PEOPLE verified that Meloni's Law & Order spinoff show Organised Crime would no longer continue for a sixth season after the final season finished in June 2025.

Just a day later, the actor appeared to get emotional in an Instagram video as he conveyed his thanks to the fans.

“Hello everyone, I noticed they announced OC, Organised Crime isn’t returning,” Meloni shared. “So I wanted to take this chance to express my gratitude to the fans, who not only brought the character of Elliot Stabler to life and allowed his story to continue, but for sticking by him and welcoming him back.”

“What a journey," he added, as he seemed to get teary-eyed. "It was an incredible journey, I enjoyed every moment playing him. It was a great ride, thank you. You helped me carve out a career I never imagined. Nearly 17 eventful years.”

Speaking about Organized Crime's cancellation and Meloni's response, Hargitay told Extra on Wednesday, April 22 that she "watched it and instantly burst into tears. I immediately cried because it was, just as he mentioned, incredibly touching and open — because it was an amazing experience. It was beautiful, personal, and played a significant role in his life, transforming it."

She continued, "It caught me off guard because I know Chris continues to work and stay in high demand as a remarkable actor. But it's like closing one chapter. When that happens, it's important to take stock. It's a significant turning point in life."

In another part of her interview with Extra, Hargitay was questioned if their Law & Order characters— Olivia Benson and Elliot Stabler— might meet once more on television.
